The Office of the Designed Landscape inc. was founded to address the issues and opportunities of the 21st Century landscape. The firm is most active in the complex metro regions of California where opportunities to improve upon the existing environment abound. We plan and design memorable places that build upon a site’s history and role as a cultural landscape. We create the infrastructure for them to function as social fabrics to strengthen communities.
Our team is composed of innovative and creative thinkers who are passionately committed to developing solutions to address the problems and opportunities of our time. We work closely with private clients, community stakeholders and public agencies to design public and private spaces as agents of climate change planning, cultural heritage, environmental justice, public health and ecological balance. The majority of our projects are focused on public parks and educational institutions in Southern California.
As a faculty member in the Master of Landscape Architecture Program at the USC School of Architecture Esther Margulies ASLA is actively engaged in design research related to Landscape Architecture theory and practice. As a member of the West Los Angeles Planning Commission, she is responsible for implementing planning and zoning policy for a diverse swath of the City of Los Angeles.
We believe that landscapes are systems and networks of the public realm and private open spaces. They must work together to create meaningful and sustainable places. We look forward to working with you to realize the full potential of each site, project and vision.
